CRUEL TO BE KIND.

NICK LOWE - CRUEL TO BE KIND.

Oh I can't take another heartache
Though you say you're my friend, I'm at my wit's end
You say your love is bonafide, but that don't coincide
With the things that you do
And when I ask you to be nice, you say
You've gotta be cruel to be kind, in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind, means that I love you, baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be kind
Well I do my best to understand dear
But you still mystify and I want to know why
I pick myself up off the ground
To have you knock me back down, again and again
And when I ask you to explain, you say
You've gotta be cruel to be kind, in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind, means that I love you, baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be kind
Well I do my best to understand dear
But you still mystify and I want to know why
I pick myself up off the ground
To have you knock me back down, again and again
And when I ask you to explain, you say
You've gotta be cruel to be kind, in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind, means that I love you baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be kind
(Cruel to be kind), oh in the right measure
(Cruel to be kind), it's a very very very good sign
(Cruel to be kind), it means that I love you, baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be kind
(Cruel to be kind), oh in the right measure
(Cruel to be kind), yes it's a very very very good sign
(Cruel to be kind), it means that I love you, baby

The Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning-CV-16 docked at the Syrian port of Tartus, accompanied by a guided missile cruiser. Its arrival has upended the entire strategic situation surrounding the Syrian conflict, adding a new global dimension to Moscow and Tehran’s military support for Assad.
This sounds severe except if one understands the true background here. China has exactly ONE carrier…this one. It is a 20 year old Ukrainian aircraft carrier that was only 70% complete when Ukraine disarmed in 1998. They sold the half built ship to China who has taken 20 years to finally complete the vessel. China has no experience at all with naval air operations. In truth, the carrier arrived in Syria without a single aircraft aboard. More of this humorous sabre rattling on the next page:

U.S. Turns to ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Writer for Anti-ISIS Propaganda

The Obama administration is turning to HBO, Snapchat, and a controversial, Oscar-winning screenwriter to help them fight ISIS.
Earlier this year, the State Department convened a group of friends in the U.S. film industry, social media, and premium cable TV to brainstorm ways to counter jihadist propaganda.
In June, State Department officials and counterterrorism advisors traveled to Sunnylands (nicknamed the “Camp David of the West,” due to its history of being a super-exclusive vacation spot for celebrities and politicians) in Rancho Mirage, California, for a summit on how to effectively fight a propaganda and media war against extremist networks abroad. ISIS, for instance, has already mastered the art of ripping off Hollywood techniques to make recruiting and propaganda films, and basically has its own Twitter army. The June meetings were essentially a sequel to a three-day summit convened by the White House in February on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) through community-based strategies.
Industry and government sources tell The Daily Beast that attendees included Mark Boal (Academy Award-winning screenwriter of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty), and executives from HBO, Snapchat, and Middle Eastern broadcaster MBC. (Earlier this year, British Prime Minister David Cameron weighed the idea of banning Snapchat out of fear that terrorists send encrypted communications via the video messaging service.)

So… how’s that flood of migrants working out for Germany?

Unfortunately this has resulted in a flood of new guests in her ... These are only the earliest reports coming out of Germany since the initial flood ...
Angela Merkel’s big heart and generous nature have earned her high praise in some circles for her handling of the initial phases of the European migrant crisis. Unfortunately this has resulted in a flood of new guests in her country, filling up not only refugee camps, but invading nearby towns and raising all manner of concerns among the locals. And while the initial offer of relief was geared toward providing relief for those fleeing the violence in Syria, the majority of the newcomers turned out to not be from that region at all. Reporters caught up with one pair of brothers and their families who came from Karachi, Pakistan and are now living in very nice homes in Germany. (Daily Mail)
‘We paid a trafficking agent for false visas to fly here to Germany,’ says 34-year-old Atif. ‘We claimed asylum and came to Giessen camp with other migrants. Three weeks ago, because we had families, they gave us a proper home.’
Atif is well-dressed and speaks perfect English. He used to be a transport manager at Karachi airport and is from a well-to-do family. Between mouthfuls of curry, he adds: ‘But there is violence between political gangs in Karachi. Lots of people are leaving for Europe. The trafficker decided that Germany was the place for us because it is welcoming refugees.’
Most are not living in houses yet, however, and the refugee camps are overflowing into the nearby towns. The newcomers are bringing a very different culture with them and the Germans are just starting to wake up to precisely how much life has changed.
Yesterday, the Mail reported how social workers and women’s groups in Giessen wrote a letter to the local state parliament claiming that rape and child abuse were rife in the refugee camp. The allegations were corroborated by Atif over his curry. ‘The camp is dangerous,’ he agreed. ‘Men of different nationalities fight and women are attacked.’
Many women have felt the need to sleep in their clothes… they won’t go to the toilet at night because rapes and assaults have taken place on their way to, or from, there.
The letter says the camp, far from being a peaceful haven for those fleeing war, is a dangerous melting-pot, where there have been ‘numerous rapes and sexual assaults, and forced prostitution’.
There are even reports of children being raped and subjected to sexual assault, it adds.

Most Americans agree with Ben Carson’s Muslim comments.

Over half of the public “would not advocate” putting a Muslim in the White House

Controversial remarks by Ben Carson about Muslims in American politics have triggered criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike, but the sentiment itself appears to be shared by many Americans.
Last Sunday the retired neurosurgeon told CNN that he “would not advocate putting a Muslim in charge of this nation.” Politicians from Hillary Clinton to Mitt Romney and Ted Cruz denounced the comments, calling the sentiment unfair and unconstitutional, while Carson himself later said he could actually support a Muslim candidate for president so long as they swore to be loyal to the Consititution.
The American public, however, remains resistant to the idea of a Muslim president. 57% in total agree with what Carson said about backing a Muslim candidate. The perspective is shared by the vast majority (83%) of Republicans as well as four in ten Democrats.
By 52% to 30%, Americans also say Carson should not apologize for saying he wouldn’t support a Muslim president.

Super Blood Moon ... Last Appearance Until 2033.

This day is PROPHETIC.

Published on Aug 1, 2013
There’s a Super Blood Moon Apocalypse right around the corner, and it’s basically sky-gazing on steroids. If you’re under 33, the evening of September 27th will be your first super blood moon, and you don’t want to miss it—the next one won’t be until 2033.
This mysterious moon brings together a mix of astronomical anomalies, the Jewish calendar, and possibly even Doomsday. Unsurprisingly, crowds of concerned folks are preparing for imminent calamity.

The moon will be at its closest orbital point to Earth (perigee), as well as in its brightest phase, so it will appear bigger and more brilliant than usual—30% brighter and 14% larger than when it's at its farthest point (apogee), a difference of 31,000 miles. Sunlight sifting through the outer bounds of Earth’s atmosphere en route to the moon will cast that signature gory glow, making it both a blood moon and a super moon.
This will be the fourth lunar eclipse in only two years, and, like the previous three, it will be falling on a Jewish holy day (in many parts of the world, but not the U.S., which is in a different timezone). This curious circumstance is known as a tetrad, and has occurred seven times since the birth of Jesus.
This Blood Moon Prophesy was invented by two Christian ministers, Mark Biltz and John Hagee, who say that this bloody supermoon signals a downward spiral into dark times. Biltz and Hagee have been spending some of their limited remaining time on Earth in a tiff about who had the revelation first.
It turns out that Mormons are equally distraught; many are worried that an earthquake or military invasion will hit Utah upon the moon's rise. They have been stockpiling food in anticipation of the event, and survival supplies are flying off shelves.
Some people, of course, are just excited about the epic skygazing on offer. The super blood moon, hanging like a juicy, foreboding persimmon in the night sky, will be up there for just one short hour on Sunday, September 27th at 9:11 p.m. EST (or September 28th at 2:11 a.m. GMT), visible from the Americas, Europe, Africa, west Asia and the east Pacific.
And who knows? It might be the last moon you ever see.
Published on Sep 23, 2015
In the US, Canada, and Central and South America, this rare Total Lunar Eclipse of a Supermoon will begin on the evening of September 27, 2015. In Europe, South/East Asia, Africa, the Arctic, and in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans it starts after midnight on September 28, 2015.

A rare astronomical phenomenon Sunday night will produce a moon that will appear slightly bigger than usual and have a reddish hue, an event known as a super blood moon.
It’s a combination of curiosities that hasn’t happened since 1982, and won’t happen again until 2033. A so-called supermoon, which occurs when the moon is closest to earth in its orbit, will coincide with a lunar eclipse, leaving the moon in Earth’s shadow. Individually, the two phenomena are not uncommon, but they do not align often.
Most people are unlikely to detect the larger size of the supermoon. It may appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter, but the difference is subtle to the plain eye. But the reddish tint from the lunar eclipse is likely to be visible throughout much of North America, especially on the East Coast.

“You’re basically seeing all of the sunrises and sunsets across the world, all at once, being reflected off the surface of the moon,” said Dr. Sarah Noble, a program scientist at NASA.

Jeb Bush, meanwhile, is at 7 percent, John Kasich at 6 percent and Ted Cruz at 5 percent. No other Republican gets more than 3 percent.
Back in July’s NBC/WSJ poll, Trump was in first place at 19 percent, Scott Walker (who exited the race on Monday) was second at 15 percent, Bush third at 14 percent and Carson fourth at 10 percent. Rubio was just at 5 percent, and Fiorina didn’t register at all in the poll.
Adding both first and second choices, Carson tops the current GOP field at 35 percent – followed by Trump at 31 percent, Fiorina at 28 percent, Rubio at 26 percent and Bush at 19 percent.
The NBC/WSJ poll was conducted Sept. 20-24 — so mostly after Walker suspended his campaign on Sept. 21. Only one GOP primary voter (out of 59 interviews) had selected Walker before he was removed from the survey.

Why can't Pope Francis give a Christian blessing ?

I think this sums up a lot of Catholic's views this week.
    Read Below.

    I can’t get no…

Francis BlessingAs my friend Fr. José Miguel Marqués Campo said of Pope Francis and his visit to the United States, he’s certainly outdoing himself!
I must admit that I’ve been a little detached from the coverage as I’ve been busy preparing for this weekend’s Catholic Identity Conference, but I’ve seen enough to concur with his opinion.
Here are just a few of the “highlights” that caught my eye:
Yesterday afternoon, Pope Francis gave a… umm…. I’m not entirely sure what to call it, but a quasi-blessing sorta thing to those gathered outside of the Capitol building.
With John Boehner by his side (presumably having a stroke), the “People’s Pope” (unless you happen to be a “traditionalist” – aka Catholic) looked out upon those who were present asking them to pray for him, adding:
“If there any among you who do not believe, or cannot pray, I ask you to send good wishes my way.”
Why someone would be “unable” to pray is beyond me, but at least he didn’t ask them to send out positive energy from the Universal Intelligence.
In any case, missing once again was the sign of the Cross or any mention of the Blessed Trinity, but this is nothing new for Francis. Every time I see him among the masses, he’s typically waving in the manner of a celebrity as opposed to imparting an actual blessing in the manner of a pope.
It seems that very often when the media reports “Pope Francis blessing” this person or that, the video footage shows him doing nothing of the sort; rather, what I usually see is a gathering of the faithful being given stones instead of bread. (For example, HERE.)
In any case, you can watch the papal performance from the Capitol balcony for yourself in the video below.
Of course, the sign of the Cross wasn’t the only thing missing from Francis’ “blessing” at the Capitol, so too was the name of Jesus Christ, which was also conspicuously absent from the speech that he delivered to Congress earlier in the day.
Once again, this is just more of the same from Pope Francis. (For example HERE.)
And then there was the Mass that Pope Francis celebrated on Wednesday, where once again… Oh well, just take a look:
OK folks… I know this topic has been broached by others before, but what the hell is going on with this pope who can’t seem to bend his knee before the Most Holy Eucharist at Mass?
Somehow he can manage to kneel when the humblecam is rolling, and yet even with his Master of Ceremonies standing by his side at the altar ready to assist, he can’t manage to genuflect at Holy Mass?
I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a nod to the heretics who don’t believe in the Real Presence of Christ. I suspect, however, that the company lie is that he’s physically unable.
Of course, a lie such as this concerning the pope’s physical incapacities isn’t limited to the current pontificate, as Benedict the Abdicator aptly demonstrated.
In any event, if one is interested in looking for evidence that this pope, objectively speaking, holds the Catholic faith, I wish them luck in finding it. In fact, I might suggest that their search begin with a prayer to St. Anthony, because let’s be honest – all appearances are that it’s woefully lost.
As for evidence that Pope Francis – again, objectively speaking – is a modernist?
This is the topic of the presentation that I’ll be delivering at the Catholic Identity Conference tomorrow, and let me just say that my greatest challenge in preparing it is figuring out how to stay within the one hour I’ve been allotted.
I hope to see you there.

Revelations of FrancisCardinal Daneels: Are these those days? ...more
    ............

It’s been a long media week already, and a story that is being buried under the papal visit coverage is one that came out yesterday from veteran Vatican-watcher Ed Pentin:
Further serious concerns are being raised about Cardinal Godfried Danneels, one of the papal delegates chosen to attend the upcoming Ordinary Synod on the Family, after the archbishop emeritus of Brussels confessed this week to being part of a radical “mafia” reformist group opposed to Benedict XVI.
    […]
The Vatican listed him second in importance out of 45 delegates personally chosen by Pope Francis to participate in the upcoming meeting. He also took part in last year’s Extraordinary Synod as a papal delegate.
At the launch of the book in Brussels this week, the cardinal said he was part of a secret club of cardinals opposed to Pope Benedict XVI.
He called it a “mafia” club that bore the name of St. Gallen. The group wanted a drastic reform of the Church, to make it “much more modern”, and for Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio to head it. The group, which also comprised Cardinal Walter Kasper and the late Jesuit Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, has been documented in Austen Ivereigh’s biography of Pope Francis, The Great Reformer.
Rod Dreher has picked up the story at The American Conservative, and he emphasizes the importance of the fact that “Pentin got his hands on a copy of the authorized  —repeat, authorized — biography” – and that this is where the information is coming from, not some anonymous source.
Marco Tosatti, the Senior Religion Correspondent for the the Italian daily, La Stampa, also did a story on this yesterday, which has now been translated by the good folks at Rorate Caeli:
The election of Jorge Bergoglio was the fruit of secret meetings that cardinals and bishops, organized by Carlo Maria Martini, held for years at St. Gall in Switzerland. This is what is claimed by Jürgen Mettepenningen and Karim Schelkens, the authors of a just published biography of the Belgian Cardinal Godfried Danneels, who refer to the group of cardinals and bishops as the “Mafiaclub”.
Danneels, according to the authors, had worked for years in preparation for the election of Pope Francis, which happened in 2013. He himself, however, in a video recorded during the presentation of the book admits that he had taken part in a secret club of cardinals that were in opposition to Joseph Ratzinger. While laughing he calls it “a Mafia club whose name was St. Gall”.
The group wanted a drastic reform of the Church, much more modern and up to date, with Jorge Bergoglio as Pope Francis at the head. And this is just as things turned out. In addition to Danneels and Martini, among the others who made up the group according to the book were the Dutch bishop Adriaan Van Luyn, the German cardinals Walter Kasper and Karl Lehman, the Italian cardinal AchilleSilvestrini and the English cardinal Basil Hume.
The Belgian newspaper “Le Vif” wrote: “ On March 13, 2013, an old acquaintance was at the side of the new Pope, Francis: Godfried Danneels. Officially he stood there in his role as the dean of the cardinal-priests, but actually he had operated for years in secret as the king-maker.”
Danneels has been invited again by Pope Francis to attend the Synod on the Family that will take place in October in Rome. But he has been severely criticized. He tried to dissuade a victim of sexual abuse from accusing the man who abused him, a bishop, who was the uncle of the victim, and because of this, at the time of the Conclave in 2013 there were those in Belgium who asked that he not be allowed to elect the new Pope.
In addition, his positions on homosexual marriage and on abortion, (according to the revelations of two parliamentarians Danneels had written to the king of Belgium urging him to sign the law that permitted it) does not seem to be in harmony with the Magisterium of the Church. And not in harmony as well with what Pope Francis affirms.
As a reminder, Pope St. John Paul II wrote an apostolic constitution called Universi Dominici Gregis, which lays out rules for the conduct of conclaves. Of particular note are these sections:
    79. Confirming the prescriptions of my Predecessors, I likewise forbid anyone, even if he is a Cardinal, during the Pope’s lifetime and without having consulted him, to make plans concerning the election of his successor, or to promise votes, or to make decisions in this regard in private gatherings.
    […]
    81. The Cardinal electors shall further abstain from any form of pact, agreement, promise or other commitment of any kind which could oblige them to give or deny their vote to a person or persons. If this were in fact done, even under oath, I decree that such a commitment shall be null and void and that no one shall be bound to observe it; and I hereby impose the penalty of excommunicationlatae sententiae upon those who violate this prohibition. It is not my intention however to forbid, during the period in which the See is vacant, the exchange of views concerning the election.

    82. I likewise forbid the Cardinals before the election to enter into any stipulations, committing themselves of common accord to a certain course of action should one of them be elevated to the Pontificate. These promises too, should any in fact be made, even under oath, I also declare null and void.

    83. With the same insistence shown by my Predecessors, I earnestly exhort the Cardinal electors not to allow themselves to be guided, in choosing the Pope, by friendship or aversion, or to be influenced by favour or personal relationships towards anyone, or to be constrained by the interference of persons in authority or by pressure groups, by the suggestions of the mass media, or by force, fear or the pursuit of popularity. Rather, having before their eyes solely the glory of God and the good of the Church, and having prayed for divine assistance, they shall give their vote to the person, even outside the College of Cardinals, who in their judgment is most suited to govern the universal Church in a fruitful and beneficial way.
Excommunication is the penalty for collusion and conspiracy to elect a given candidate. This is serious business. It is astonishing that even someone as brazen as Cardinal Daneels would admit to doing so openly, and on the record.
This recalls to mind something that was written by Robert Moynihan (which I covered here) just before the last conclave began. I can’t help but wondering if the mysterious cardinal in this story knew what was happening:
Dr. Robert B. Moynihan, founder and editor-in-chief of Inside the Vatican magazine wrote yesterday of an encounter he had with a member of the curia that lends credence to this concern. After recognizing a certain unnamed cardinal of his acquaintance dressed in the manner of a simple clergyman on the streets of Rome, Moynihan approached him to speak a concern that had been on his mind.
    “Your eminence,” I said.
In his eyes he was saying to me that he could not answer any questions.
But he was not excluding all conversation. And so I ventured…
“I only wanted to tell you one thing,” I said. “That I loved Pope Benedict.”
    He stood still.
“I did too, and I do love him,” the cardinal said.
“And so I have been troubled and a bit off balance since February 11,” I said.
And then, as if filled with a sudden emotion, I saw the cardinal’s face grow dark and sad, and he said, forcefully: “I love him, but this should never have happened. He never should have left his office.”
    I was silent.
“It is like a man and a woman, a husband and wife, a mother and father in relation to their children,” he said. “What do they say?” It seemed he was asking me the question.
    I was silent.
“They say, ‘until death do us part!’ They stay together always.”
So I understood him to be saying that he felt a Successor of Peter should not step down from the throne, no matter how weary and tired, but continue until death.
I felt the words he was speaking were the words of an argument that may have been used even among the cardinals, but of course, that may not be the case.
But I felt that I was catching a glimpse of how at least one cardinal was thinking about the Pope’s renunciation.
“Your eminence,” I said, “I’ve forgotten. Are you already above age 80, or not?
“I am not yet 80,” he told me.
“So you will be voting tomorrow.”
He nodded, and a look passed over his eyes which seemed filled with shadows and concerns. I was surprised at his intensity. I was surprised by the whole conversation.
He squeezed my hand. “Is there anything else I can do?” I asked.
“Pray for us,” he said. “Pray for us.”
He turned as if he needed to go.
    “I have to go.”
He took a step away from me, then turned again.
“It is a dangerous time. Pray for us.”
I think we should do as he asked.
It is good that we trust in the wisdom of Benedict’s decision, that we believe that whatever the reason, he knew what he was doing. But this should not put us at our ease. I believe in the very core of my being that the cardinal is right. It is a dangerous time for the Church. I can feel it. The forces of darkness are alert, and there is something afoot. What it is, we may never know. But this is far from an ordinary conclave.
It’s impossible to say what will become of this story, but with Daneels on the personal papal invite list for the Synod, it must not be forgotten.
The best time to release a news story if you want it to disappear is either during a major news event or on a Friday afternoon. This originally came out yesterday when everyone (including us) was covering Pope Francis’s congressional address. And here I am, wrapping up our week at 5:30PM on a Friday with this bombshell just as everyone is heading home to enjoy their weekend. It wasn’t my intention to come in at the 11th hour, but time is short. We need to keep this one moving. Please, if you find it worthwhile, consider sharing it.
We’ll update you when we know more.
